Why
make Yahoo your default?
Background:
If you are like me and use Yahoo as your primary way to send and receive
e-mail, you have a problem.
As you surf the web and find a web page that has an e-mail link and
you want to send an e-mail using that link.
If you click it, Outlook or Outlook Express opens. You can tell that
it is an e-mail link by looking at the status bar
on the bottom (provided you have it turned on- View/Status bar). It
will show "mailto" in your IE status bar.
Clicking the link opens whatever program is set as the default in
IE.
You can see the default that is currently set by opening Internet
Options.
You can get there from Control Panel or by opening IE & using
the Tools menu.
Once there, click the Programs tab & the default e-mail will probably
be Outlook Express or maybe Outlook.

The
info from Judy's e-mail:
After
a whole bunch of messing around I found your site, but couldn't get
your suggestions to work. Then I unearthed this: by Yahoo! Toolbar
employee Jon | 2 months ago
Great
suggestion (to put Yahoo Mail as default on the Toolbar). We don't
currently do this for Toolbar, since not all Toolbar users use Yahoo
Mail. One option may be to include it for users who install Toolbar
from a promotion within Yahoo Mail. In the meantime, if you install
Yahoo Messenger from messenger.yahoo.com it includes a package called
"Yahoo Browser Services" which will tell your Windows OS to open all
mailto: links in Yahoo Mail, so if you click an email address while
you're surfing the web, it will open the new message window in Yahoo
Mail.
So:
I downloaded Yahoo Messenger and selected CUSTOM INSTALL; said NO
to shortcuts, anti-spy, and yahoo toolbar but YES to browser services.
After I installed it I went to Tools/Internet Options/Programs: Yahoo
Mail was on the drop-down list and I selected it. This was successful.
Once
you have completed this simple procedure, you will have Yahoo as your
default. FINALLY
