How to Make Yahoo the default e-mail in Internet Explorer

Why make Yahoo your default?

Background: If you are like me and use Yahoo as your primary way to send and receive e-mail, you have a problem.
As you surf the web and find a web page that has an e-mail link and you want to send an e-mail using that link.
If you click it, Outlook or Outlook Express opens. You can tell that it is an e-mail link by looking at the status bar
on the bottom (provided you have it turned on- View/Status bar). It will show "mailto" in your IE status bar.
Clicking the link opens whatever program is set as the default in IE.
You can see the default that is currently set by opening Internet Options.
You can get there from Control Panel or by opening IE & using the Tools menu.
Once there, click the Programs tab & the default e-mail will probably be Outlook Express or maybe Outlook. And in Vista and 7 the default is Windows Live.

First you need the Yahoo toolbar from http://toolbar.yahoo.com/

Click on the Download Now button

Notice the box is not checked to make Yahoo the default e-mail. Check it. While there look at the other selections and decide what you want.

I use Google as my home page and for searching so I uncheck them. After you make your choices, click I Agree.

Then you get to make another choice

I choose No, but it's your choice. You must choose one or the other. Then click Install then Continue and follow instructions.

Notice the yellow bar at the bottom. Click Run. You will get a couple of windows asking your permission to install. Click OK or Yes.

Then you get the Welcome to Yahoo Mail screen.

Again you must make your selections. I again uncheck the first and 3rd and check the second one.

Click Next and agree to the license

Then you get another choice that they already asked once.

Again you must select something to go on. I don't participate but it's your choice. They are hoping you will change your mind.

You will see the progress meter and then the Installation complete

You have to close your browser and reopen it to make it active.

Once you have completed this "simple" procedure, you will have Yahoo as your default. FINALLY
