Stay
(Keep your Connection) Alive
Are you still
using a modem connection? Does your ISP drop you? AOL used to regularly. CompuServe
still does. Some other ISP's will drop you after a period of inactivity.
By keeping
this page open in a separate browser window, your web activity will be kept
active so your ISP will not drop you after a period of inactivity. You may minimize
this window, but do not close it or use this window to go to another link.
To keep this
page open in it's own window, use your Back button to return to the previous
page and right click on the link to this page and select "Open in New Window".
Then minimize this page and leave it open.
If you want
to stay alive, you also need to check your Internet Properties in the Control
Panel to make sure the auto disconnect is turned off. The default setting in
Windows was to disconnect after 20 minutes of inactivity. In XP/IE6, I don't
find the setting anywhere.
This page
only applies to modem connections, not broadband since they are always connected.
