Open OE. Click Tools, Accounts.

Click the News tab: Click Add, News.

Type the name you want to show just as you would for an e-mail. Click Next.

Type your e-mail address. Click Next.

Type your server name. (Obviously you need to know this) Most often it is the same as your e-mail server except the word News replaces Mail. Click Next.

You are ready to surf the newsgroups. Click finish.

Click Close.

Obviously be careful. There are some trashy people & virus' residing here. Just don't open the sleazy groups.

In the top box "Display ....", type in "gardens" & watch it change to:

Now you can look through the list of groups. When you find one you like, click it to select it and click Go to. This closes this box and returns you to your Outlook Express window.

The messages posted in the group show in the upper right section. Select a message and it displays in the preview window or double click it to open it in a new window just like e-mail.

In this example, I chose alt.binaries.pictures.gardens to get the box below and selected "Autumn colors"

Double clicking a message displays it in a new window just like e-mail.

This does not show the whole message, but you can maximize it. If you want to save the photo, right click it and save it.

Another example is the Bird of Paradise:

You can post questions and get answers. I went to the "bread" category some time ago and asked for a recipe. To go back to the list of groups and select new ones, Click Tools, Newsgroups:

Look through the messages and you will see how questions are posted and answered.

Some groups post photos, some ask & answer questions, some post virus'. Be sure your antivirus program is working and do not open unsavory messages.

Try some other groups where questions might be answered. Cars, auto, autos, plumbing, electrical, solar, astronomy. If you can't spell it, type the first few letters. AGAIN, BE CAREFUL. TYPING "READ" DOES FIND "BREAD", "READING", & "READER" BUT ALSO FINDS SOME PORNO TRASH. As a note, many use this to share information on medical problems.
